DevConf.us 2018 is the 1st annual, free, Red Hat sponsored technology conference for community project and professional contributors to Free and Open Source technologies held at the Boston University in the historic city of Boston, USA.

Before you start a container, you either build or download an image that you'll use as a template for the container. But what's in that image? And how hard is it to build one, really? We'll take a quick tour of what goes into an image. Then we'll build an image from scratch, using tools that were clearly not designed for building images. Then we'll look at using some of the tools that actually were designed for building images, and why using them is preferable to doing things the way we just did it.
